Discover Our Connections, Right Here
From 1955 until today, what have your life and family gone through? What have Taiwan and the world gone through? In these decades, what kinds of connections has the National Museum of History had with you, with Taiwan, and with the world? The permanent exhibition Discover Our Connections, Right Here has carefully selected 110 exquisite artifacts from the Museum’s collection to show the cultural changes the National Museum of History and Taiwanese society have gone through together: from the Nationalist government moving to Taiwan and taking root in local society, until the multicultural present shared by everyone today while facing a new future.
The permanent exhibition starts in the Heritage gallery. The two batches of artifacts accepted by the Museum at its inception have witnessed Japan’s surrender and have brought along a marvelous cultural heritage when the government of the Republic of China came to Taiwan. These relics from Chinese history not only have made key contributions to domestic history education and historical research, but also played an important role in cultural diplomacy in the decades following World War II. At the same time, the Museum has also launched the artistic exchange and promotion of calligraphy and painting. In the Convergence gallery, for example, important works of art have been selected to show the history of the development of Taiwanese fine arts. Finally, in the Know the Past to See the Future hall, contemporary artists and the public have been invited to create works of art for the Museum to reveal the steady force of the sustainable prosperity shared by the Museum and society.
Right here, we can discover our connections with the annals of calligraphy and painting, our connections with the lives on this land, and our connections with Taiwan in our hearts. Welcome to the National Museum of History.
